One day Amel, a 12-year-old orphan, makes a decision – she has to leave. She has no other choice, because her country is at war.
Unfortunately, nothing goes according to plan. At the border, Amel loses her accompanying family and is left all alone. On the way, she meets Bacem, an army deserter who plays the lute.
The child and the former soldier begin a journey in which together they experience the pain of exile and learn to build their identities anew.
